A groggy Burmese combatant reluctantly receives complimentary sutures from the doctor, pinning together his split eyebrow. Concussed fighters do not seek medical observation—they can’t afford it. With a few bills in hand for the beating, and little understanding of the cognitive effects of trauma, death feels unlikely. Still, too many boxers have been known to never wake from their sleep. Perhaps they’ll be back again next year. The fights will continue regardless.
