Boxing has long been a national passion: three hundred years ago, Siamese King Seesunpetch, the “Tiger King”, fought incognito at village fairs. Nai Khanom Dtom is widely recognized as the first champion in Thailand. Captured by the Burmese during one of many wars fought between the kingdoms, the Thai soldier pummelled twelve opponents in consecutive bouts, winning his freedom. The year was 1774.

Today, Thai boxing is televised virtually every day of the week.
