Vanessa Winship's photographs of schoolgirls in rural Turkey have been met with critical and curatorial acclaim. Resolutely low-tech and shot using a plate camera - or what she calls a "box with two holes" - the portraits mark an attempt to "strip down the photographic gymnastics" of photojournalism.

In the week the pictures go on show at Les Rencotres D'Arles, and see publication in book form, Winship spoke to Guy Lane about the project.

Guy Lane weighs up a new overview that bills itself as a comprehensive survey of photography in the 21st century.

An exhibition and two new books can only scratch the surface of Martin Parr's (self - portrait, left) activities as an avid collector of all things photographic. Parrworld, on display at Munich's Haus der Kunst, includes some of the books, memorabilia and postcards he has amassed alongside a selection of his own new work.

Parr spoke to Guy Lane about the relationship between photography and collecting, and about his most extensive collection to date.
