Well done to poda who won our most recent competition on flickr, a back issue of 8 Magazine is on it's way to you now!
We wanted to see your pictures that predominantly feature the sun and
had another overwhelming response, so thank you to all that entered.
This picture stood out because the 'sunlight' is not only the subject
of the photograph, but is also integral to the creation of the scene.
The shaft of light illuminating the lone figure at once directs our
attention towards the person and at the same time produces the depth
necessary to describe this clearing within the forest. A beautiful and
atmospheric shot.
The next flickr competition will be announced shortly, so watch this
space.

After many, many weeks of receiving hundreds of entries, we have finally completed the gruelling task of choosing a shortlist for the first annual Foto8 Awards & Summer Show. In the end we received over 1800 individual images sent in from 38 different countries! Not too bad for our first year running. So without further delay, click to see the names of all that made it through and will have their prints exhibited in HOST gallery...

Foto8 were at the opening of Off the Real, the University of Wales, Newport Documentary Photography degree show, last night in Angel. We recognised quite a few images from entries in the Summer Show while the most popular subject for the students' work seemed to be landscapes.

An exhibition and two new books can only scratch the surface of Martin Parr's (self - portrait, left) activities as an avid collector of all things photographic. Parrworld, on display at Munich's Haus der Kunst, includes some of the books, memorabilia and postcards he has amassed alongside a selection of his own new work.
Parr spoke to Guy Lane about the relationship between photography and collecting, and about his most extensive collection to date.
