East Timorese refugees waiting to cross the border on the Indonesian side of the Malibaca river. The border crossing is open from 9 until 10 am and only a few are allowed to return home each day.

An Indonesian soldier stands guard at the Maliana crossing. On the far bank of the Malibaca river, in East Timor, people are waiting to see if some of their relatives are among the returning refugees.
