Introduction by Mary Blume
In 1947, as Europe set about repairing itself after six years of war, a new photo agency was born in Paris. Magnum’s chief founder members were Robert Capa, Henri Cartier Bresson and David Seymour, many other photographers soon followed. This book celebrates the agency’s early years with a collection of striking images of a continent coming back to life. Some of the most revered photographers of our century are here capturing the spirit and excitement of the postwar era. Mary Blume, veteran feature writer for the Paris-based International Herald Tribune, introduces the book with interviews from many of the featured photographers.
