EI8HT, the first international magazine dedicated solely to photojournalism, releases Vol. 1 No. 2 in August 2002. Described by the Creative Review as ‘a new home for photojournalism’, the second issue is published as a precursor to the two most important photojournalism events of the year: Visa pour L’Image in Perpignan, France, and the World Press Photo 2002 exhibition at the Royal Festival Hall in London.
Vol. 1 No. 2 extends EI8HT’s reputation for publishing award-winning, innovative photo stories with the inclusion of Desert Blast by Simon Roberts, a free photo CD for subscribers. Featured stories in this issue include: Divided Cities, Frédéric Sautereau’s investigation into Belfast and Mitrovica; Andrew Testa’s journey through Kosovo on the Serb Train; coverage from Kashmir by Gary Knight; an exploration of Blindness in two schools - Sierra Leone and England - by Tim Hetherington; Dimitry Beliakov’s report on the floating church of the Volga river; the epic voyage aboard a cargo ship to China by Susan Schulman.
"I am excited by the great demand we have received for the first issue," comments Jon Levy, editor. " This reflects a desire of readers around the world to see photography given the space to tell a story and communicate new ideas."
EI8HT presents challenging photojournalism that offers a fresh perspective on world events. In association with the original online journal, www.foto8.com, the print magazine creates a platform for independent photographers to display important and inspiring photojournalism to a wider audience.
Founded by former New York Agence Presse photojournalist, Jon Levy, EI8HT is produced in London by foto8 Ltd and is the first example of a magazine of this kind developing from a web site. Posted online since 1998 www.foto8.com won a European Online Journalism Award in 2001 and today complements the print magazine with its own digital presentations of stories, links, correspondence and magazine services.
EI8HT is published quarterly and is available either by annual subscription (from £22 / ¤42.50) or from selected bookshops in Amsterdam, Hamburg, Paris, Perpignan, Bristol, London and Manchester. Institutions may subscribe to receive an electronic version for educational systems.
The publisher, Gordon Miller, and editor, Jon Levy, welcome reviews and are available for comment. Photography featured in the magazine is available upon request for reproduction in your publication.
