- Talk with Guy Martin and Ivor Prickett
13 February 6:30 pm
Please join us for a talk with photographers Guy Martin and Ivor Prickett, to mark their exhibition at Foto8, The Last Days of Mubarak.
Both photographers were in Egypt in February 2011 when protests erupted around the country, and in particular in Cairo's Tahrir Square.
Martin and Prickett will be in conversation with Foto8's Jon Levy, who at the time was commissioning work for the Wall Street Journal, discussing the imagery emerging from the events that led to the resignation of Hosni Mubarak.
Guy Martin (b.1983) began pursuing long term personal projects while studying a BA in Documentary Photography at the University of Wales Newport. One of which 'Trading over the Borderline' won him the Guardian/Observer Hodge Award and was runner up in the Impact Photos Award. His other projects include the re-birth of the Cossack movement in Southern Russia and the Caucasus and he has covered events in places as diverse as Uganda, Iraq, Spain, Egypt and LIbya. In 2009 Martin was named by the Magenta Foundation as one of their top emerging photographers. Martin is now based in Cornwall, England.
Ivor Prickett (b.1983), also a Newport graduate, dedicates his time to making long-term personal projects while also carrying out editorial assignments for a wide range of international clients. With a particular interest in post war situations, Prickett has worked on a number projects throughout the Balkans and Caucasus. Having lived and worked in the Middle East for two years, where he documented the uprisings in Egypt and Libya in 2011, Ivor is now based in London.
His work has been recognised with several photography awards and in 2011 he was selected for the World Press Photo Masterclass.
