Please join us for a talk with photographer Louie Palu.

Over the past 20-years documentary photographer Louie Palu has created bodies of work which examine the social and political landscape of our time. His choice of subject matter has ranged from his acclaimed work Cage Call, which examines the working conditions in underground mines over 12 years, to the US prison in Guantanamo Bay and an extensive study of the conflict in Kandahar, Afghanistan between 2006-2010 which this talk will focus on. Palu will screen segments of his extensive combat video which will be featured in an upcoming feature documentary on Kandahar. In addition, he will have a portfolio of exhibition prints on hand and will discuss his extensive list of critically acclaimed exhibitions.

Palu’s work has been featured internationally including on the BBC, CBC, NPR and published in The Globe and Mail, The Sunday Times, TIME, Newsweek, The New Yorker, The New York Times, The Atlantic and many others. His work has been exhibited worldwide including at the Baltimore Museum of Art, Southeast Museum of Photography and Visa Pour L’Image in Perpignan, France. His work is in the collections of George Eastman House, Museum of Fine Arts Houston, Portland Art Museum, National Gallery of Canada and the Library and Archives of Canada to name only a few. He is the recipient of numerous awards including a National Magazine Award, Photojournalist of the Year, Alexia Foundation Documentary Photography Grant, Aftermath Foundation Grant and is a 2011 Bernard L. Schwartz Fellow.
