Description

What are the ways photography is used today? Images can be a witness to shared experiences acquired through encounters and engagements as well as the embodiment of personal journeys. They can be used to explore urban subcultures and identities and reveal social phenomena as manifested in London and other modern cities.

This talk, organised to coicide with the Third Effect exhibition at Foto8, comprises a series of presentations by young photographers. They will examine the way the medium can be used to investigate and communicate contemporary ideas and views around society today. The evening will be chaired by John Levett.

John Levett is the convenor of Crossing Lines, a collaboration between CUCR and London Independent Photography. He is co-ordinator of the Greenwich Satellite Group of London Independent Photography and organiser of the London Village Project 2011-12. Crossing Lines encourages innovative approaches to distance collaboration. It promotes the belief that photography in itself, and in the service of a wider project, is a developmental and explorative process which can benefit from partnership with others. It provides a sympathetic and supportive forum for experimental and exploratory work with no formal platform for presentation.
