8 Magazine: The Photography Biannual
Foto8 is pleased to announce the publication of 8 Magazine’s 28th issue, themed ‘The Legacy of Oil’. From its first issue in 2002, 8 Magazine has continued to grow and progress, representing the best in documentary photography in an award-winning format, focusing on issues that shape the world.
The Legacy of Oil will explore the hugely topical subject of oil, addressing how its extraction affects the earth and the people who live on it. As well as focusing on the Gulf spill, this issue will take on oil’s legacy across the globe in terms of pollution and wealth creation, as well as looking towards a new ethics of oil and alternatives to the planet’s most important resource. And as ever, we’ll bring you these ideas via awe-inspiring photo essays and insightful and provocative writing.
The Legacy of Oil will feature the work of photographers Kael Alford, Christopher Anderson, Johan Bavman, Samuel Bollendorf, Polly Braden, Maurice Broomfield, Bryan Denton, Rena Effendi, Jiang He and Arthur J D, Ed Kashi, Christian Lutz, Yann Mingard and Espen Rasmussen. We also celebrate the best writers in the (oil) field: Ben Amunwa, Maurice Geller, Helon Habila, Jeremy Lovell, Peter Maass, Michael Shaw, Kevin Smith, John Vidal and Sally Williams.
