Foto8 and HOST Gallery are pleased to announce that the award for ‘Best in Show’at the Foto8 Summer Show 2008 will go to...

Guido Castagnoli for his image: Street to the main station, Shimada City, Japan 2007 from the series “Provincial Japan”.

The panel of judges were impressed by the high standard and diversity of all the selected entries. They were particularly drawn to the colouring and mysterious 1950s, bleached effect of Castagnoli’s print, commenting: “This is an image that will continue to be intriguing each time one looks at it. It is both strange and beautiful.”

ABOUT THE SUMMER SHOW
The Foto8 Summer Show at HOST is an open print fair and annual show of new works by photographers. In 2008 Foto8 received over 1,800 image entries from 38 countries. These were edited down to 164, which form the exhibition at HOST Gallery.
Photographers were invited to submit their framed prints for the final display. The Summer Show Launch Night on 22 July drew a crowd of 400 photography lovers to the gallery, spilling out onto Honduras Street. The exhibition remains open until 31 August 2008 and visitors are invited to challenge the judges’ decision by voting for their own favourite image to receive the ‘People’s Choice Award’. All works on display are for sale.
