In Domains of Influence she portrayed successful businesswomen from around the Arab world; in Table of Power she photographed the boardrooms of European multinationals. And again the symbolic life forms of globalised power constitute the subject of her latest book - Car Girls - an analysis of the models and saleswomen who work the motor shows from Detroit to Tokyo. Brighton Photo Fringe: Bellis Gallery

A late posting for a worthwhile show. Right at the end of the Fringe festival, I visited the interesting Bellis Gallery, a particularly beautiful space that manages to be right in the centre of town yet off the tourist trail (8-9 Kings Road). The show was called Human Endeavour, and work by four recent graduates from Brighton University – Murray Ballard, Alex Currie, Richard Chivers and Simon Carruthers was well exhibited and intelligently curated.

On the Road with Bert Teunissen

Dutch Photographer Bert Teunissen has recently secured two grants that will enable him to complete the celebrated Domestic Landscapes series that he first worked on in 1996. On completion he will have visited eighteen countries and clocked up many thousands of kilometres on the continent's byroads. Now he has made the driving the subject of a new publication - On the Road.

 

Bert talked to Guy Lane about his latest work and the hours spent behind the wheel.
