Heloisa de Melo
is the lucky winner of our Holga competition. We had over 300 entries on our Flickr site and it was so hard to choose just one. We loved the colour, composition and atmosphere of this shot so a year's subscription to foto8 is on its way to Heloisa in Brazil.

Praise for the all new 8 Magazine

29 May 2008 Blogs

"I think the magazine looks fantastic and I was very impressed with the amount of interesting reading content and most of all the sense of respect for such a variety of photography Very difficult combination! Bravo to the whole team. Looking forward to next issue."

"I have the latest issue and it looks terrific. I’ve been buying 8 magazine ever since the first stapled issue quite a few years back. I think the magazine is going from strength to strength; in my opinion it has become THE reference magazine for documentary and photojournalism. And I’m sure that’s not going to change with the new format.

Toy cameras and tintypes: the f295 symposium

Written by Leo Hsu 29 May 2008 Blogs

Reverie © 2000 France Scully Osterman
The f295 symposium and workshops taking place in Pittsburgh this week have brought together quite a few very different kinds of photography.  There is lensless photography (photograms), pinhole photography, and traditional or historical chemical processes that are now thought of as nontraditional or "alternative" including various wet plate processes and printing techniques; there is also some attention to the reconstructed aesthetics of toy cameras such as the Diana+ and Holga.
