 Introducing an exhibition of photography from East Timor at the FotoFreo festival 2010, Photographer Philip Blenkinsop describes the events leading up to his celebrated photographs of Timorese freedom fighters in the mountains as they prepare to fight for the country's independence in 1998.
Blenkinsop reminds us that, despite the passage of time, many of the people he met some 12 years ago are still very much engaged in an everyday life and death struggle for survival and the universal freedom they first won more than a decade ago.
