Restrepo, the movie, wins Sundance

Hetherington's image of a soldier in the forward operating base of "Restrepo" won him the 2008 World Press Photo of the Year and a short video installation Sleeping Soldiers was first shown to wide acclaim by Foto8 at the NY Photo festival 2009.

Restrepo, a feature length documentary about the soldiers who were stationed at this isolated and continually attacked outpost, received its screen premiere at the Sundance film festival in Park City, Utah in January 2010 where it was awarded the top honour for Best US Documentary Film.
