Omar Yashruti's The North at The Perfect Exposure Gallery

The Perfect Exposure Gallery will exhibit the work of Palestinian/Irish photographer Omar Yashruti from October 22 to December 2, 2009.

Yashruti first infiltrated his mother's homeland amidst the violent resistance, bombings, and police state of the 70's. In 2005 he returned, camera in hand, and began documenting daily life.

Born in Jerusalem and raised in Lebanon, the son of an Irish mother and Palestinian father, Omar Yashruti began visiting Ireland whenever he could. Growing up amid the conflict of Beirut in the 60's and 70's, what Yashruti found in Ireland -- army patrols, guns in the streets, and daily reports of bombings, demonstrations and house burnings -- was familiar, and the cold gray tones of resistance, division and disorder colored his vision.  The 24 photographs selected for The North are part of an ongoing project documenting daily life in Northern Ireland in the aftermath of The Troubles.
