restrepo-200Exclusive Screening of Restrepo, a documentary by Tim Hetherington and Sebastian Junger

HOST Gallery, Wednesday 13 October, 6.30pm

RESTREPO is an entirely experiential film: the cameras never leave the valley; there are no interviews with generals or diplomats. The only goal is to make viewers feel as if they have just been through a 90- minute deployment. This is war, full stop. The conclusions are up to you.

A feature-length documentary that chronicles the deployment of a platoon of U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan's Korengal Valley. The movie focuses on a remote 15-man outpost, “Restrepo,” named after a platoon medic who was killed in action. It was considered one of the most dangerous postings in the U.S. military.

Winner of the 2010 Sundance Grand Jury Prize, Restrepo is a documentary focusing on a deployment of a US platoon in Afghanistan’s hostile Korengal Valley. Over the course of 15 months, the two filmmakers Sebastian Junger (author of The Perfect Storm and War) and Tim Hetherington lived with the unit, shadowing their every move which resulted in extraordinary footage. From spectacular combat and ambush scenes to difficult discussions with local village elders and civilian and military deaths, never before has such access been granted. Restrepo is as close as it gets to life as a soldier.

Restrepo will open in cinemas across the country on 8th October, and in London will open at the Apollo Piccadilly Circus, Empire Leicester Square, and the Renoir.
