Simon Roberts talk at HOST gallery

Simon Roberts is at HOST on Wednesday 14 October to discuss the launch of his new book, We English.

The product of a year's adventure across his homeland of England, Roberts has followed his first publication, Motherland (Chris Boot, 2007), with a portfolio of large format photographs depicting quintessential English culture. Motherland explored Russia, taking him to far flung and forgotten areas of post-communist eastern Europe, whereas We English takes him back to his roots.

His work is a visual diary, representing and chasing the memories of his very English upbringing. Born in South London, and holidaying in typical English retreats such as the Lake District, Roberts brings to life a very affectionate depiction of the English landscape, and seems to tap into a very public consciousness of what it means to be English.

Roberts makes his visit to Host during a busy time, the release of his new book also sees him exhibiting The Photographers' Gallery Print Room from 1 September – 18 October. The evening will include a screening of his work along with a book signing of We English.

Wednesday 14 October, from 6.30pm
