We are seeing… and what the response to the Foto8 Summershow illustrates – is a new generation of photographers redefining the medium and connecting with new audiences’ – The Times.

While Foto8 specialises in documentary photography we are always seeking to support and democratise image making. The Foto8 Summershow has become a unique opportunity for photographers from all backgrounds and disciplines to participate in the creation of a new aesthetic. An aesthetic that is becoming less formal and harder to define as photographers explore new approaches to their subjects and themes allowing their work to stand out.

Since our inaugural show in 2008, the Foto8 Summershow has grown in size and reputation. Each year the Summershow captures and reflects the mood of the moment becoming in itself a document of current photographic practice while simultaneously pointing to a future which is both promising and exciting.

Exhibitions & Awards

London’s prestigious Foto8 Gallery in EC1 is the setting for the Summershow where up to 150 images will be selected for exhibition: to be seen and judged by respected industry professionals from the photography, arts and media worlds. In 2012, the print exhibition will open on 6 July with our now famous launch party, with the exhibition continuing until the 18 August.

The winner of the ‘Best In Show’ prize of £2000 will be announced at the launch party, with a second ‘People’s Choice’ decided by votes from the public announced towards the end of the show. All shortlisted work will be included in a printed catalogue and online slideshow and will be available for sale. Proceeds from print sales will be shared between the photographer and Foto8.
