Each year, as the all important salmon run approaches, an onslaught of thousands of fisherman, fishing industry personnel and workers from far and wide descend upon the region.

As a young, aspiring photographer seeking adventure and quick money in order to finance photo projects, I spent several summers working on the salmon boats. I discovered, and returned to photograph, an epic story of man's attempts to control and exploit this extraordinary phenomenon.
