In Print, Online, On Display

News Release, London 29 February 2008

Foto8, the London based publishing company, announces the release of a new version of 8 magazine. The new magazine will run as a photography biannual alongside it’s newly re-designed website, foto8.com.

This year marks 10 years since the founding of Foto8 in 1998 as a home for photojournalism. Now, as it has in the last decade, Foto8 displays and interprets photojournalism in ways that are helping to define the purposes and uses of contemporary photography.

The launch of these exciting new developments reinforces Foto8’s dedication to exploring the relationship between art and journalism while fostering a network and community that represents both the creators and the audience.

In Print: From April, 8 magazine will be released as a 200-page magazine featuring photo stories by the top talents, emerging names and most influential photographers of the period. Other sections will cover Works in Progress, Book Previews, Interviews, New Fiction and Columns by distinguished writers. A UK Magazine Design Award Winner for three consecutive years (2005, 2006, 2007), 8 magazine will use this opportunity to showcase its new design in keeping with its dynamic reputation.

Online:
The new foto8.com brings foto8 contributors and members closer together, creating a space to share, comment and debate photography. It is a home for all of Foto8’s activities as well as a meeting place for the photography community worldwide. Users can find dynamic photo stories alongside short films and documentaries; other users’ comments and discussions; Foto8’s weekly reports and exclusive commentaries.

On Display: HOST is Foto8’s gallery, founded in 2005. In 2008 its programme of face-to-face engagements with photography will expand: new exhibitions, screenings, talks, professional folio reviews, and monthly book club meetings. The highlight of the year will be the Foto8 Summer Show. This will be an open exhibition and print sale of submitted photographs, culminating in a new annual award which will go to “best in show”.
