Kai and Rose decided 18 months ago to take their family and leave the city for the bush of Australia, in search of a simpler and more sustainable life.
Living in a shared community with their two daughters Mali, six years old, and Persia, 18 months, Kai and Rose have been learning the intricacies of life determined by weather and seasons, as opposed to the financial commitments and work deadlines of their previous urban existence.
Living with the family for periods of time over the last 18 months, I have learnt that without sunshine there is no electricity and with too much rain the seven small bridges into town are easily flooded. I felt a pace of life very far removed from my own. My camera became my diary, my confidante and means to document this family’s journey as they became accustomed to a life less ordinary.
