sage_280Foto8 is pleased to announce that the 2011 Summershow award for Best in Show goes to ‘Ivory Coast, 2010’ by photographer Luca Sage (left). Sage collected his prize of £2000 at the launch party at HOST gallery on 8 July. Judges said they were won over by the power of the photograph as a stand alone image, both in composition and subject.

“I was drawn to the image as soon as I walked around the room. The composition is beautiful. I love the facial expressions, particularly of the first boy.” – Emma Morris

Honourable Mentions were awarded to ‘After the Crash’ by Neil Hall, ‘Friends of Negus McClean’ by Antonio Olmos and ‘Congo’ by Martin Usborne. These images were chosen from the 150 photographs that comprise the Summershow 2011.

Luca Sage graduated from the University of Brighton in 2004. His large format portraits have been exhibited both nationally and internationally, including the National Portrait Gallery in London. Sage has recently won three international photography awards and has been commissioned by The Photographers’ Gallery in London as part of the London Olympics 2012 celebrations.
