The renovation of both floors has created a multi-functional space, with the ground floor continuing to be the professional showcase of Foto8’s exhibition schedule. The first exhibition in the new space, One Hundred & Forty Characters, a series of photographic portraits by Chris Floyd, is on from 3 – 17 November 2011.
The lower ground floor has been converted into a dedicated screening and events space, a lounge and the Foto8 Print Room. All of Foto8’s talks and seminars will take place on this level, as will its bi-monthly schedule of documentary film screenings – the first of which, Hell and Back Again (Dir. Danfung Dennis, 2011) was screened on 7 and 8 November. The next, When China Met Africa (Dir. Marc and Nick Francis, 2011), is scheduled for 28 November.
Open free to the public during working hours, the lounge on the lower ground will offer a space to work or conduct meetings, with free WiFi facilities and a cafe opening from early next year.
The Foto8 Print Room will meanwhile feature a specifically-chosen selection of prints, displayed on the lower ground level and periodically switched over, which is available for sale. The inaugural Print Room display will open with the work of Chloe Sells and run from 3 November – 7 January.
Foto8’s new space is open to the public Mon-Fri: 10am-6pm and Sat: 11am-4pm.
