The presentation is part of the Frontline Club&#8217;s In the Picture series.<\/p>\n<p class=\"eventtime\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"eventtime\">While Gerda Taro&#8217;s name is not well known, her collaboration with Robert Capa places her at the birth of contemporary photojournalism. Her work has been shown alongside Capa&#8217;s in the This is War! exhibition which has traveled from ICP to the Barbican. John Morris, Magnum&#8217;s first photo editor, will introduce the talk.<\/p>\n<p class=\"eventtime\">\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\">\nwriteFlash({\"allowfullscreen\":\"true\",\"allowscriptaccess\":\"always\",\"wmode\":\"transparent\",\"flashvars\":\"viewcount%3Dfalse%26autoplay%3Dfalse%26brand%3Dembed%26\",\"src\":\"http:\/\/www.ustream.tv\/flash\/video\/793570\",\"width\":\"400\",\"height\":\"320\"});\n<\/script>\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"eventtime\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"eventtime\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold; color: #f0f0f0;\">From the Frontline Club:<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"eventtime\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">&#8220;Gerda Taro<\/span> was a pioneering and largely unknown female photojournalist whose work consisted almost exclusively of dramatic photographs from the Spanish Civil War. <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Irme Schaber,<\/span> Taro\u2019s biographer and curator of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.barbican.org.uk\/artgallery\/event-detail.asp?ID=8029\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"This is War! Robert Capa and Gerda Taro\">current exhibition<\/a> at the Barbican will present and talk about a wide selection of Taro\u2019s work.<\/p>\n<p> <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Gerda Taro<\/span> (1910-37) worked alongside <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Robert Capa<\/span>, who was her photographic as well as romantic partner and the two collaborated closely. Her photographs were widely reproduced in the French press and incorporated the dynamic camera angles of New Vision photography as well as a physical and emotional closeness to her subject. While covering the crucial battle of Brunete in July 1937, Taro was struck by a tank and killed.<\/p>\n<p> <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Irme Schaber<\/span> is a writer and lecturer on the history of exile photography, photojournalism and print-media.
