Abdul-Ahad and Meek explore common territory and different approaches to writing and reporting the world. They will focus on Afghanistan, the location for Meek’s fourth novel \u2013 We Are Now Beginning Our Descent<\/em> \u2013 and from where Abdul-Ahad has reported from behind Taliban lines.<\/p>\n

Ghaith Abdul-Ahad is an Iraqi journalist who works as a specialcorrespondent for the Guardian<\/em>. He is also a contributor photographerfor Getty Images. He photographed and wrote from behind the insurgentlines in Falluja and amongst the Shia militia in Najaf as well ascovering the daily violence in Baghdad, the Iraqi elections andinvestigating jihadi networks in Syria and Jordan.<\/p>\n

James Meek is a writer and reporter. He was born in London and grew upin Dundee, Scotland. He is the author of two collections of shortstories and four novels, including The People’s Act of Love <\/em>(Canongate, 2006) and We Are Now Beginning OurDescent<\/em> (Canongate, 2009). Between 1991 and1999 he reported for the Guardian<\/em> from the former USSR. In 2004 hisreporting from Iraq and about Guantanamo Bay won a number of awards,including Britain’s Foreign Reporter of the Year award.<\/p>\n
