{"id":2386,"date":"2010-04-07T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2010-04-07T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.foto8.com\/live\/?p=2386"},"modified":"2010-04-07T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2010-04-07T00:00:00","slug":"houston-fotofest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.foto8.com\/live\/houston-fotofest\/","title":{"rendered":"Houston FotoFest"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>Along with the review sessions (which last a month in total) there are many  shows instigated by the festival.<\/p>\n<p><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/_enLaSu-coRI\/S7xvtrRGArI\/AAAAAAAAAiY\/DXKw1_-JtsE\/s1600\/WWS5.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/_enLaSu-coRI\/S7xvtrRGArI\/AAAAAAAAAiY\/DXKw1_-JtsE\/s400\/WWS5.jpg?w=1200\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5457359678965416626\" border=\"0\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The show Whatever was Splendid: New American Photographs, curated by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aaronschuman.com\/\">Aaron Schuman<\/a>, in my opinion was not just the highlight of these exhibitions but also hands down wins best title for any of the shows. Whatvever was splended featured work by Will Steacy, Michael Schmelling, Greg Stimac, Tema Stauffer, Jason Lazarus, Jane Tam, Richard Mosse, Craig Mammano, Todd Hido, Hank Willis Thomas, and RJ Shaughnessy.<\/p>\n<p><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/_enLaSu-coRI\/S7xvtfrJUcI\/AAAAAAAAAiQ\/4gnEVX0E7_o\/s1600\/WWS2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/_enLaSu-coRI\/S7xvtfrJUcI\/AAAAAAAAAiQ\/4gnEVX0E7_o\/s400\/WWS2.jpg?w=1200\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5457359675853459906\" border=\"0\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>(All images are of the Whatever was Splendid Exhibition)<\/p>\n<p>One of the other larger shows was curated by Natasha Egan Associate Director and Curator, Museum of Contemporary Photography at Columbia College Chicago, an interesting photographic survey of where America stands now, entitled Road to Nowhere?  Egan says:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe artists in this exhibition address a repertoire of diverse but related themes including politics, surveillance, race, war, and economic insecurity. While the work is oftentimes critical, a quintessentially American optimism is evident.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Anyway more about that
