Shot over the course of a year, Hetherington\u2019s photographs prove surprisingly tender \u2013 arguably the strongest among them a series of the men asleep. This is a body of work as much about camaraderie, love and male vulnerability as it is about the horrors of war. The book\u2019s title \u2018Infidel\u2019 is taken from a tattoo the men adopted as a mark of their comradeship. Hetherington\u2019s photographs are sharp, moving and full of humour; they stand as a tribute to a group of men risking their lives in the interest of their own nation, and a provocative contribution the documentation of war in our time.<\/p>\n<p><em>Infidel<\/em> is published by Chris Boot www.chrisboot.com and has an introduction from by Sebastian Junger. It will be available at Host Gallery for the duration of the exhibition.<\/p>\n<p>Restrepo, a film about US soldiers in the Korengal Valley was directed by Hetherington and Junger and won the Grand Jury Prize for Best Documentary at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival. Awards for his photojournalism include a Hasselblad Foundation Award (2002), World Press Photo of the Year 2007 (for a photograph featured in the Infidel), the Rory Peck Award for TV Features (2008), and an Alfred I duPont Award (2009).\u00a0 Five years spent living in Liberia resulted in the book and HOST Gallery exhibition <em>Long Story Bit By Bit: Liberia Retold<\/em> (2009).
