\"ss2012_200\"Foto8 is pleased to announce that the People\u2019s Choice Fujifilm X10 Award for the fifth annual Summershow will be presented on Thursday 16 August at the Summershow Closing Ceremonies event.<\/p>\n

The award will be presented to the photographer who\u2019s image has received the most votes cast by visitors to the gallery since the show launched on 6 July 2012. This year we are extremely grateful for the participation of Fujifilm in providing the People\u2019s Choice prize, a Fujifilm X10 premium compact digital camera.<\/p>\n

The 2012 Summershow is made up of 159 individual works, selected from over 3200 images entered. The images are hung floor-to-ceiling in Foto8 Gallery and the exhibition is open to the public until 18 August. The list of participating photographers is published at www.foto8.com\/summershow<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s Summershow reflects many of the events of the past 12-18 months, with the defeat of Gadhafi in Libya, the spread of the global Occupy movement, protests against austerity and the build-up to the Summer Olympics figuring amongst a plethora of personal and public stories shared by photographers. <\/p>\n

There are two prizes associated with the Summershow: the Best in Show, which is judged by industry professionals and announced at the launch and the People\u2019s Choice, which allows visitors to the gallery to have their say on which image they found to be the most powerful. The Summershow is a celebration of the democracy of the image and the questioning of what makes a good photograph. The People\u2019s Choice award is an extension of this and is an integral part of the Summershow experience.<\/p>\n

This year the Best in Show \u2013 which was judged by acclaimed British photographers Alison Jackson and Simon Roberts, the BBC\u2019s online photography director Phil Coomes, TimeOut\u2019s chief arts critic Ossian Ward and critic and curator Gerry Badger \u2013 was awarded to Titus Simoens’ image from the series \u2018Blue See\u2019.<\/p>\n

The Summershow was established in 2008 at Foto8 Gallery as the UK\u2019s only open exhibition of photography, inviting photographers from all walks of life, professional and amateur alike, to share their best work from the preceding year. The Summershow is an accessible and inclusive public celebration of what\u2019s good in photography.<\/p>\n
