This work has been accomplished in the south of Andalusia, the legendary birthplace of flamenco, looking for the Jondo sentiment in current Cal\u00e9 communities inheriting the flamenco practice.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jondo is a word that refers to a dark and broken singing, common in pioneer flamenco singers. This kind of singing narrates the sorrows and miseries in Cal\u00e9’s life during the origins of flamenco. Jondo also refers to a way to feel and understand existence beyond folk singing, sharing a melancholy and uncomplaining perspective of life.<\/p>\n

Currently Cal\u00e9 people have been settled in Andalusia for three centuries and their lifestyle has changed. They are no longer migrants and they don\u2019t suffer scorn from the inhabitants of Andalusia. The Cal\u00e9 are fully integrated into Spanish society, for that reason Flamenco singing and it’s historical perspective are said to be diminishing nowadays.<\/p>\n
