In 1997 there were 1400 recorded deaths out of every 100,000 births and by 2007 this had risen to 1800. Photographer Susan Schulman travelled to Freetown to learn more about the underlying problems resulting in these deeply troubling statistics. <\/p>\n<p> Click on the thumbnails to read each person&#8217;s story and see the photo-story slideshow below.
