Arrived last night in time for Tuesday night’s slideshow presentation. The nightly screenings follow the same order each day: a round up of the day’s best news photos, followed by news coverage and photo essays from the past year, all projected onto a vast screen outside Campo Santo. <\/p>\n

I was pleased to see Andrew Biraj’s work on flood victims in Bangladesh featured – as his was the very first ‘story-of-the-week’ we published on this site, when we relaunched in January (click here <\/a> to see it. ) – and Justin Jin’s story on Chinese denim factory workers – a previous 8 Magazine cover story. Other favourites included Eric Lafforgue<\/a> ‘s story on ritual body-painting and costumes in Papua New Guinea. Now they really know how to dress up!<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

This morning I visited the Alexandra Boulat exhibiton in Couvent des Minimes. An eclectc mix of images selected by her friends and family, has resulted in a surprisingly coherent and quietly emotive show.<\/p>\n

Next stop was Eglise des Dominicains where I saw Brent Stirton’s story on the Virunga National Park which earned him a World Press Award <\/a>earlier this year. This tragic story  is much more complex than I previously realised – having only seen the images of murdered mountain gorillas – and centres on the conflict between these rare beautiful creatures, the park rangers trying to protect them, the local rebel army and thousands of displaced villagers all competing for this precious area of land.<\/p>\n

There is so much to see here that it’s easy to overload on images, but over the next few days I will be doing my best to bring you the best bits and adding interviews and blogs, so watch this space! <\/p>\n
